Being a new Christian, but also a recently recovered addict of only 7 months (thank you Jesus) it feels good when it all begins to make sense, and we finally find the real solution to the problems that once caused us to harm our lives and the lives of those around us in attempt to find any relief or escape from them. Peter says it best in 1st Peter 2:11 when he tells us we are like “sojourners and exiles” in this world. We never belonged here and we’re not equipped for this place. God wants us to take our eyes off this foreign jungle around us and put them on heaven where we belong with Him. I spent far too much time in my life trying to compete with others to protect a territory in a place I don’t even belong. I always hid behind a mask and as many walls as I could build between myself and others, telling myself that I had to do whatever I could to get ahead, which meant leaving people behind or using them. I was fighting as hard as I could every day to only realize I was going in the wrong direction the entire time, making matters only worse for myself, in attempt to hide from or decrease the problems I was only making more of. I’m sure many of you can relate trying to do things “our way” in every way possible only to crash and burn again. I couldn’t count how many times and ways I’ve tried to do it my way, but I can tell you how much real relief and peace there is when we finally give God a chance and try to do it His way. Our shepherd knows we were not made for this place. God wants to show us the way out, and completely restore our lives and is patiently waiting for the moment we decide to give him the chance. If you’re reading this right now and you’re living in addiction to any drug or alcohol, or feel any habit of yours is controlling your life, I pray that you will give God the chance he’s earnestly waiting for. You don’t have to fight anymore, you never have to use again, and you are not alone. God is ready to completely redeem, and restore you the moment you ask him into your life. Then, you can finally experience true freedom. This is what happened to me at the Freedom Dream Center about 7 months ago when I gave up my self-destructive lifestyle and addiction and gave my life to Jesus Christ. With His help I was able to remove all of the garbage I was living in, and He replaced it with nothing less than tranquility and can do the same for you if you let Him. If we’re fighting, let it be for His kingdom.
